Data Wipe & Refurbishment Process

At Wipe and Recycle IT, LLC, protecting sensitive data and extending the life of technology are at the core of what we do. Every device we sell goes through a structured data wipe and refurbishment process before it is listed for sale.

Our goal is simple: ensure devices are securely wiped, properly tested, and ready for their next owner.

1. Device Intake

Devices are sourced primarily from enterprise refresh cycles, business upgrades, and corporate IT asset recovery programs.

When equipment arrives, each device is logged into our inventory system and inspected to determine its overall condition and refurbishment potential.

2. Secure Data Erasure

Protecting previous owners' data is a critical part of responsible IT asset disposition.

All storage devices are securely wiped using industry-standard data destruction methods. This process removes all previous data, operating systems, and user accounts from the device.

If a storage device cannot be properly wiped, it is removed and destroyed or replaced before the device is sold.

3. Hardware Inspection

After data erasure, each device is inspected to verify key hardware components.

Inspection may include:

• Power and boot testing
• Display and graphics check
• Keyboard and trackpad verification
• WiFi and connectivity testing
• Port functionality
• Basic system diagnostics

Any devices that do not meet functional standards may be repaired, parted out, or sold as damaged units depending on their condition.

4. Cosmetic Evaluation

Devices are then evaluated for cosmetic condition and assigned a grade according to our grading system.

Condition grades help customers understand the level of cosmetic wear they can expect. Grading categories typically include:

• Like New
• Good
• Fair
• Damaged / Parts

You can learn more about these categories on our Grading Guide page.

5. System Preparation

After testing and grading, the device is prepared for its next owner.

This typically includes:

• Installing a clean operating system when applicable
• Verifying system activation and basic functionality
• Ensuring hardware components such as memory and storage are properly installed

6. Final Inspection

Before listing or shipping, devices receive a final inspection to confirm:

• Hardware functionality
• Cosmetic condition matches the assigned grade
• Proper configuration of components

Only after passing this stage is a device made available for sale.

7. Responsible Technology Lifecycle

Refurbishing technology helps extend the useful life of devices and keeps functional equipment out of landfills. Equipment that cannot be refurbished is responsibly recycled through appropriate electronic recycling channels.

By purchasing refurbished equipment, customers help support a more sustainable approach to technology use.
